Video Lessons

These video lessons, structured into categories, provide short ‘how-to’ lessons on various Timelapse features and concepts. Go through them sequentially or as needed.

The Tutorial Guides page provides another great learning resource. If you are a new Timelapse user, the QuickStart guide will get you going, while the Reference Guide provides more coverage. Specialized guides detail particular topics: the Template Guide, the Image Recognition Guide, the Metadata Guide, and the Database Guide.

Getting going with Timelapse

Installing Timelapse

Installing Timelapse is fairly easy. This video steps you through the download process. If you are new to Timelapse, it also shows you how to download the Practice Image Set, where you can try out the lessons in the QuickStart Guide to get you going.

Adding images and videos over time

New images and video files often become available over time, for example, from periodic retrievals of images from a camera’s SD card, or from a new camera installation. This video illustrates how easy it is for you to incrementally add those files to your Timelapse image set.

Inspecting images and videos

Viewing Videos

Timelapse works on both images and video files. This lesson illustrates the Timelapse video player: its controls, how video appears in the overview, and how you can optionally view your video in an external video player to access more functions.

Random Sampling

Timelapse lets you create a random sample of images or videos from the current selection to produce a subset of files. This lets you review those files efficiently against some criteria. For example, if image recognition is being used, you can select a recognition criteria (e.g., Empty) and sample that selection to get a sense of the recognizer’s correctness.

Entering Data

QuickPaste for rapid data entry

QuickPaste lets you create buttons representing common data entry patterns. A single click replaces entering data into multiple fields.
(~2 minutes)

Duplicating Records

Timelapse lets duplicate a file’s record, where two or more records can be associated with any image or video. This lets you enter different values for a single data field. For example, you may have a single Species field. If you see more than one species in an image, you can duplicate the record and enter the 1st species on the 1st record, and the 2nd species on the 2nd record.

Using the Overview

The Timelapse Overview lets you view, select, and enter data for multiple images or videos at a time.

Image recognition

Using EcoAssist for image recognition

Timelapse uses EcoAssist to do its image recognition. This video illustrates how to use EcoAssist. From the Timelapse Recognitions menu, you:
1. Download EcoAssist (done once or for updates)
2. Run EcoAssist on an image set folder to produce a recognition file.
3. Import the recognition file into Timelapse.
